Live in the Spirit

March 7, 2016
Opening Hymns:
Dear Jesus, In Whose Life I See http://www.hymnsite.com/lyrics/umh468.sht

Scripture Reading:
Romans 8:6-11
8:6 To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

8:7 For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law-- indeed it cannot,

8:8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

8:9 But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

8:10 But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

8:11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you.

Message:
Throughout the bible there are different scriptures on resurrection and re-birth. In today’s scripture we are learning about the life that Jesus brings to us all. Though our minds and our bodies have sinned, and are dead through their sin, God gives us life through our spirit. But how do we chose to live in the spirit?

Sometimes I feel at war with myself. My mind, body, and spirit seem like different entities all longing for different things. My body might crave junk food, and my mind argues against it, as it is unhealthy. My mind and body sometimes join forces against the sprit, wanting to do things the easy way rather than the right way.

It becomes easier to make the right choices, and to live in the Spirit when we spend time studying the scriptures, praying to our Lord, and communing with other Christians. Surrounding ourselves with people who are alive in the Spirit will help us live in the Spirit as well, and will give us the strength to be a good examples to others.

Time of Prayer
Dear Lord, let us live with You! Teach us how to listen to what Your Spirit calls us to do. Let us follow each step You call us to take. May we have the strength to show others what it means to be alive in the Spirit. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Closing Hymn
327 Crown Him with Many Crowns http://www.hymnsite.com/lyrics/umh327.sht

May the Lord bless you and keep you: May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you: May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace." Amen.

Go in peace, serve the Lord
Thanks be to God
