Scripture Reading:
Psalm 23
23:1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.

23:2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters;

23:3 he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name's sake.

23:4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff-- they comfort me.

23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD my whole life long.

Message:
I remember this psalm very well. It is the first one I ever memorized. In 5th grade we had the chance to win a small prize if we memorized different bible verses. This psalm is probably one of the most popular psalms to memorize, and it is clear to see why. It is a simple psalm, but it gives a beautiful picture of what our relationship with God is like. He is the shepherd that guides us, He is with us during all our trials. When our life has ended we get to be with Him forever.

I recall reciting this psalm to myself in prayer when I’ve needed comfort. The beautiful picture it conveys is calming. It reminds us that God is forever with us to call us back to the fold. He is protecting us from evil, and providing us with everything we need. This is the kind of walk I want to have with God, ever following Him, and ever trusting Him.

Time of Prayer
Dear Lord, lead us like a shepherd. Protect us from things that would harm, and guide us to things that strengthen us on this day. Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

May the Lord bless you and keep you: May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you: May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace." Amen.
