Trust that God Will Always Be God

Opening Hymns:
  378 Amazing Grace http://www.hymnsite.com/lyrics/umh378.sht

Scripture Reading:
Psalm 32
Of David. A maskil.[a]
Blessed is the one
    whose transgressions are forgiven,
    whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the one
    whose sin the Lord does not count against them
    and in whose spirit is no deceit.
When I kept silent,
    my bones wasted away
    through my groaning all day long.
For day and night
    your hand was heavy on me;
my strength was sapped
    as in the heat of summer.[b]
Then I acknowledged my sin to you
    and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess
    my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave
    the guilt of my sin.
Therefore let all the faithful pray to you
    while you may be found;
surely the rising of the mighty waters
    will not reach them.
You are my hiding place;
    you will protect me from trouble
    and surround me with songs of deliverance.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
    I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Do not be like the horse or the mule,
    which have no understanding
but must be controlled by bit and bridle
    or they will not come to you.
10 Many are the woes of the wicked,
    but the Lord’s unfailing love
    surrounds the one who trusts in him.
11 Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous;
    sing, all you who are upright in heart!

Message:
Trust in the Lord. Such a simple idea and yet it can be so hard for us sometimes. It is silly to me how much I can doubt and worry even though God has always been faithful. Continually worrying about this-and-that and not trusting God is almost as silly as continually opening and closing a refrigerator to see if the orange inside is still an orange, and wondering if the orange is an orange when you can’t see it. Yes, God is still God, and He is still faithful.

The truth is, we are the ones God should worry about not the other way around. We make mistakes… people may debate over what a sin is and how often people sin. The sad reality is that, regardless, we are all sinful. We are the ones who shouldn’t be trusted. Even through all our sins, and even though we are untrustworthy God still puts His trust in us. Perhaps we can learn to trust in our God who never sins, and never lets us down. Then, like the psalmist, we can “rejoice in the Lord.”

Time of Prayer
Dear Lord, thank you for having faith in us that we will learn from our past and sin no more. Help us learn to have complete faith and trust in You through every challenge of our life. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
