Opening Hymns:
415 Take Up Thy Cross http://www.hymnsite.com/lyrics/umh415.sht
Scripture Reading:
Philippians 2:5-11
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Message:
Sometimes life can distract us and we can forget to live as God calls us to live. With work, school, home life, and all our extra activities we can get distracted with ourselves and forget about others. When life’s activities overwhelm us or when we are in the “desert places’ of our life it is hard to remember that we are called to serve others as Christ served us.
Have you ever noticed when you are depressed or stressed out that most of your focus is on yourself? Serving others gives me an inner sense of joy. When the focus is on serving others it is hard to feel depressed. We each have a mission to live as Jesus lived. Every new day is a new chance to live the life of a servant. Every moment we have a new opportunity to touch someone’s life for the better.
Time of Prayer
Dear Lord, let us remember to serve others as Jesus has served us. Amen
The Lord’s Prayer
Closing Hymn
73 Oh Worship the King http://www.hymnsite.com/lyrics/umh073.sht
May the Lord bless you and keep you: May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you: May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace." Amen.
Go in peace, serve the Lord
Thanks be to God
